Tony Bradman (author)
Join Jimmy and his friends in a new, action packed adventure series, specially designed for readers learning about World War II for the very first time!
It's 1941 and the Second World War has transformed London.
All the adults are doing important things and playing their part. Jimmy and his friends want to be in the thick of the action, doing whatever they can to keep the East End safe. So they form a top-secret group called the Cobb Street Commandos.
Houses become hidden headquarters for official CSC meetings. Abandoned warehouses turn into their personal training grounds. They create helmets from cardboard and training tools from old scraps of wood.
They know how to be creative and are more than ready for battle.
TONY BRADMAN was born and brought up in London and still lives there. He's written poetry and picture books, short and long fiction and educational books and plays, all for young readers. VIKING BOY (Walker Books) has been very successful, particularly in schools, and ANGLO-SAXON BOY (Walker Books) - the story of one boy's involvement in the Battle of Hastings - won the Historical Association's Young Quills Award in 2018. ROMAN BOY (Walker Books) came out in 2024, and GREEK BOY IN 2026, both taking the same formula into the ancient world. He's also written a non-fiction book about the Vikings - VIKING BOY: THE REAL STORY (Walker Books) is a companion to VIKING BOY and is narrated by Gunnar, hero of the novel. Other highlights include WINTER OF THE WOLVES (Bloomsbury Educational), the story of how the tale of Beowulf came to Britain, QUEEN OF DARKNESS (Bloomsbury Educational), his take on the Boudica story, and A BAD DAY FOR JAYDEN (Barrington Stoke), a contemporary story about a boy who is helped through a bad time by his teacher. BRUNO AND FRIDA (Barrington Stoke) is a story about a German boy refugee and the dog he encounters at the end of World War 2, and won a Young Quills Award in 2023.
