Erika Zagar (author), translated by Evelina and Marcus Ferrar

Peter fears his parents’ reaction to disastrous school maths results. So he escapes to sea in a boat, runs into a storm and as he sinks below the waves, he is magically brought to safety by creatures of the depths – whales, dolphins, mermaids and Poseidon, their Ruler. In Poseidon’s School, he learns how to breathe under water, and is introduced into a kindlier world by enlightened guides – and beautiful Amara, whose magical talent is to heal by singing.

Because Peter has the magical talent to live both on land and underwater, he leads a mission to rescue a young dolphin, kidnapped at sea and sold to an aquarium on land. Through daring exploits, Peter and helpers bring the terrified youngster back to rejoin his mother among the waves.

Celebrated by his aquatic teachers, he returns home on land, where to his surprise he finds his parents knew all along that he had a special yearning for the oceans. They are happy that he is now a being of both land and sea.

Erika Zagar conjures up a wonderful silvery world of ethereal light and enlightened beings, inspiring young readers to believe in their own special talents and create a better world.
